About the project

“Education is not just about learning; it is about empowering all people, building peaceful societies and protecting our planet. Our future development agenda starts with education: this is the first step on the road to dignity by 2030” (Amina J. Mohammed, UN Secretary-General’s Special Advisor on Post-2015 Development Planning). Education for Sustainable development is explicitly recognised in Objective 4.7 of the “Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development”, the action programme for people, the planet and prosperity signed by UN member countries, as a tool for students to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to promote Sustainable Development, becoming its conscientious agents and learning to act responsibly for environmental integrity, economic sustainability and a fairer society.

“School of Change” project will promote the creation of a transnational training path that will encourage the participants involved (96 students enrolled- 24 in each partner school, aged between 14 and 17 ) to reflect on the biodiversity of their country of origin and on plant and animal species potentially at risk, on environmental threats generated by daily actions, which are incumbent on the ecosystem, and to imagine methods for reducing waste production, enhancing behaviours aimed at recycling, reuse and adoption of lifestyles that encourage greater civic awareness. The final output of the project will be the creation of a BOOKLET to reduce the environmental impact, starting from the schools and reaching the local communities, with the presentation of the initiatives put in place by the students of the partner institutes and the methodological notes to accompany the teachers on a path of involvement and support to the school and civic participation of students. The project, in addition to responding to the horizontal priority of the Erasmus+ Programme regarding the enhancement of soft and hard skills, through a transnational training path based on the use of active and laboratory teaching methods, structured on the basis of learning by doing and cooperative approaches learning, intends to respond to the following priorities:
– Common values, civic engagement and participation: teachers will guide students in a process of civic engagement that will support them in making school staff and local community listen to their voice. Students will have the opportunity to influence the adoption of new rules and attitudes in the school and to propose activities and initiatives, but also to organize awareness campaigns in order to promote green lifestyles;

– Environment and climate change: “School of Change” partnership will cooperate in order to build capacities for school staff and students aiming at contributing to the renovation of the European Educational System toward sustainable development challenges.
Participants, through videos and photos, will share their experience and the teachers of the activities will illustrate the results obtained with the creation of “School of Change”. The booklet will be made available online and publicized on eTwinning, SEG and the Erasmus+ Projects Results Platform in order to reach other European schools interested in “making a change” with small and important actions for the environment, sustainable growth and personal development
of the citizens of future.

“School of Change” will generate a positive impact on the quality of the Educational Offers proposed by the Schools involved and an innovation in the teaching methodologies adopted, which will systematically promote student participation and environmental protection actions. The entire action will develop an overturning of the classic teaching paradigm, placing the student, his needs and his attitudes at the centre of the skills-building process.
